General Information

PSPA Annual Conference: Welcome to Harrisburg!

Harrisburg is a small city located in South Central Pennsylvania. It was settled by Native Americans around 8000 B.C and then re-settled by Europeans in 1710. It was incorporated as a Borough in 1791 and as a City in 1860. Harrisburg has been the Capital of Pennsylvania since 1812. Because of its rich history, Harrisburg offers a wide variety of museums and historic buildings to visit. These include the Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, the National Civil War Museum and the Broad Street Market.

If you prefer to spend your time outdoors, there are a multitude of parks within Harrisburg city limits. Two of the closest parks to the Conference venue are Riverfront Park and City Island. Riverfront Park is a 4.5 mile long ribbon of land bordering the Susquehanna River and is often the host of music festivals, craft fairs and other community events. City Island, accessible via foot and automobile bridge, is the home of Metro Bank Park and the Harrisburg Senators Baseball team. In addition to baseball, there are a wide variety of activities on City Island including the Children’s Carousel, Carousel Pavilion, “Water Golf” Miniature Golf Course and City Island Railroad.

If food is more your style, Harrisburg has it all. The downtown area, along Second Street and near the Capitol Complex, offers a wide variety of restaurants and caters to many tastes. If you are in an Italian mood you could choose Zia’s at the Red Door for Home-style Italian or Mangia Qui which features great Tapas. Traditional American food can be found at Stocks on 2nd or you could go to the Firehouse Restaurant. If you prefer some more exotic tastes, Passage to India serves Indian cuisine. Molly Brannigans offers festive Irish Pub food and atmosphere. These are only a few options to choose from within walking distance from the conference location.

Once you are pleasantly full from a great meal, head out on the town and visit some of the night spots in Harrisburg. The Hardware Bar, Level 2, Dragonfly and Eclipse are just a short walk down Second Street. These Bars and Nightclubs offer live music and DJs.

As you can see, Harrisburg has something for everyone to enjoy while visiting the city. If you would like more information about Harrisburg, please visit the official website: www.harrisburgpa.gov.

CME Accreditation

Conference organizers plan to request 26 hours of AAPA Category I CME for the Clinical/Professional Sessions and 8 hours of AAPA Category I CME for the Workshops from the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Total number of approved credits are yet to be determined.

NCCPA Logging

The NCCPA and the Pennsylvania Society of PAs have worked together to reduce the time and effort associated with logging your conference hours for our Fall CME Conference. NCCPA has designed a special system whereby PAs can click on a unique link in their online NCCPA personal certification record at www.nccpa.net and select the sessions they attended from a master list of sessions that PSPA sent to NCCPA. The PA can automatically apply those sessions wherever they need them, as long as the hours are earned in the correct window. You must supply the PSPA with your NCCPA number on your registration form if you would like to use this sevice. Please note that you will not be able to log conference hours until November 8, 2010. This unique link on the NCCPA website will be available until December 3, 2010.

Materials Provided

Those attendees who register by the October 1, 2010 deadline will be guaranteed their choice of a CD ROM or a traditional printed copy of the conference syllabus. PSPA has “GONE GREEN” and therefore we will be charging a $25.00 fee for the printed format. Computer outlets will be available in the lecture hall for those who would like to use the disc during the lectures. Be sure to circle your preference on the registration sheet. The conference syllabus will be available on-line by October 20, 2010 for self-printing.
Those registered by the early October 1, 2010 deadline will receive a PSPA bag and a gift celebrating our 35th Anniversary. The gifts from PSPA are a part of the 35th Annual Physician Assistant Conference Celebration.
All conference attendees will receive instructions on how to download their CME Certificate at the end of the conference.
Remaining copies of the printed syllabus and gift bags will be available on a first come/first serve basis. Registration badges will be required for admission to all conference events. Replacement badges will be provided at a $5.00 fee.

Exhibit Hall

Exhibit Hall hours are as follows:
Thursday October 28, 2010 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am and 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Friday October 29, 2010 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Conference participants are encouraged to speak with those exhibiting to show our gratitude for their generous support of the PSPA.

Solicitation by individuals or groups at the conference is prohibited unless they have been given prior approval by the CME Chair and/or have paid a licensing fee to exhibit their products or services in the exhibit hall. This covers all areas directly related to the functions of the conference. Solicitation upon the hotel grounds is subject to the policy of the hotel.

PA Marketplace

We are opening up the Exhibit Hall to any PA who has a side business or hobby that he/she might want to share with the PSPA. There would be a nominal fee (the cost the hotel charges us for the table) but after that, it is all profit for you. There are many PAs who have a side business, and now is the perfect time to showcase your wares! We are expecting approximately 500 PAs to come to Harrisburg. If you have any questions or would like to exhibit, please contact Cindy Cicconi at
cindy.cicconi@gmail.com.

Children

Due to liability issues and for the convenience of other conference participants, no children will be allowed in the lecture hall, exhibit areas or evening events.

Student Fund

Remember how hard it was to make ends meet when you were a student? We are hoping to keep rates lower for students but need your help. Consider “sponsoring” a student with a donation to our “Student Fund” which pays for meals and tuition. Or give the gift of membership to a deserving student you’ve mentored!
