AWARDS COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT
Mr. Rob Emery, currently our PSPA President, stepped down from the Awards Chair position and passed it along to me. I have been at the helm only since July 2009, and with the work for the annual PSPA Conference in full swing, the Awards Committee has been very busy.
Last year for the October 2008 Conference, Rob and his committee chose 6 very dedicated students to win the Nate Alston Student Scholarship Award. The following winners were Colleen Lennon from Philadelphia University, Carrie Burkholder from Saint Francis University, Chelsea Sandusky from Seton Hill University, Rebecca Pollino from Drexel/Hahneman University, and Krista Dahl-Koehler and Natalie Cleaver both from Lock Haven University.
The PSPA Fellow Awards included Dr. Michael Essig from Duquesne University winning the PSPA Educator of the Year Award, Thomas J. Lemley PA-C awarded the Michael Habeck Life Achievement Award, and Pete Murray PA-C honored with the Humanitarian of the Year award.
There were 12 student essay applicants this year, and the 6 final winners will be announced at the annual PSPA Conference during the Challenge Bowl. Several nominations letters were received for both the PSPA Educator of the Year and Humanitarian PA of the Year. At the annual membership luncheon, the winners of these awards will be honored.
The Awards Committee will continue to work towards recognizing and honoring those PA’s that serve our communities and our PA programs, as well as those that make us proud to be called Physician Assistants.
Respectfully submitted,
Helen O. Hiserman PA-C
Awards Chair
