Diversity Council

Committee purpose: Advance the PSPA’s commitment to diversity in all its various aspects.
Action plan goals committee is responsible for:
- Working with membership committee to recruit new members
- Working with membership committee to enhance membership services
- Updating and enhancing Diversity Link of PSPAWebsite
Accomplishments from October 2008 – October 2009:
- Honored Tom Lemley for the leadership, mentorship, and stewardship he has provided by naming the diversity competition after him
- Updated Diversity Link of PSPA Website
- Contacted people who had expressed interest in diversity to discuss interests
- Identified “Health Care Disparities” as the focus of 2008-2009 committee work
- Corresponded with chair of membership committee and board administrator to ensure all competition entrants are PSPA members in good standing
- Corresponded with board advisor, seeking ideas to better promote writing competition
- Wrote articles for PSPA Newsletter
- Recruited judges for writing competition, representing 4 PSPA regions
Planned accomplishments for October 2008 – October 2009:
- Continue to work with AAPA to present articles, programs, projects and presentations
- Continue to write articles for PSPA Newsletter
- Collaborate with PSPA members, especially preceptors, to increase student membership and participation in Diversity Council
- Work with Public Relations & Education Committee to address diversity issues
- Work with Pennsylvania PA Program faculty to address diversity issues
- Poll students for suggestions regarding the Thomas J. Lemley Award for Diversity
- Increase student involvement in the 2010 Writing Competition
- Recruit members from all 8 PSPA regions
