Liaison Report Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians

Submitted by Pamela Minardi PA-C

I attended the Hershey Escape CME program at the Hershey Lodge on May 28 th through May 30 th sponsored by the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians. It has been challenging to network with their association but over the last two years I have been making small inroads to introduce the membership to the advantages of working with PA’s. In the past my interaction was mostly with Janine Owens the CME director. I did get to speak with her briefly about the electronic technology that was used to record the attendance at their CME programs. I got the name of the company who does this for them (however only for PAFP members) and will pass it on to the Conference Committee.. This year I worked very closely with Dorothy English, the PAFP Corporate Relations Director. We co-coordinated the donation of $500 from the PSPA to the PAFP Foundation. This donation will be used to encourage medical students to choose Family Medicine as their .specialty and was greatly appreciated. Because of this donation I was invited to attend the Summer Soiree Reception at the Hershey Country Club on Friday evening May 29 th.The PSPA was recognized at this meeting by Frances Myers the Marketing and Meeting Assistant. She introduced me to many family physicians who are active in their organization. I also met some old friends from Lancaster County doctors Jane and Tom Weida and Robert Good from my Northern Lancaster County Medical Group. I was introduced Don Schumacher the PAFP Communications Director and spoke with him about the on-line publication that he supervises for PAFP. It appears to be a very sophisticated magazine.(Perhaps just to my very limited on-line skills!)

I will continue to keep the lines of communication open with the PAFP and will attempt to work with them on projects that will be beneficial to both of our organization.
