What is the PAPAC?

The Physician Assistants Political Action Committee (PAPAC) is a separate fund sponsored by the PSPA for the purpose of assisting in governmental affairs. The PAPAC enables Pennsylvania PA’s to have a voice in the Commonwealth’s political arena. Why was the PAPAC formed?

Formalization of the PAPAC allows the PSPA to be involved in the political process and regulation formation. Subsequently, the PAPAC uses this opportunity to positively change legislation through education. In turn, the PAPAC supports Pennsylvania politicians who are interested in and/or empathetic to our causes.  The decision to form our political action committee was truly visionary, and has provided both an attentive ear and powerful voice in Pennsylvania politics on issues that directly affect our profession.

How does the PAPAC raise money?

Since our PAC is only “sponsored” by the PSPA, the PSPA as an entity cannot contribute to the PAC. However, the PSPA can support our efforts in raising monies for the PAC, the annual Silent Auction. The Silent Auction is the important part too. Corporation donation is illegal; therefore we rely on individuals like you for monetary support. The PAPAC committee is interested in pursuing other forms of fundraising. Do you have a knack for marketing???

How much money does the PAC raise annually?

Since the beginning of the Annual Auction held in conjunction with the PSPA's CME conference, we have raised anywhere between $5,000 to $12,000 from that event alone. THis year's total was $9,221. In the last 2 years, however, we have added a second fundraiser, the PAC Professional Medal Campaign, which has been enormously successful, thanks to all of you! In both 2008 and 2009, we raised over $20,000 from that campaign.

What if I can’t afford to join the Foundation Medal Campaign:

It is understandable that not everyone will be able to join the Foundation Medal Campaign this year. But if every PA in the state would make a small contribution of even $10 (approximately the cost of a muffin and coffee at starbucks) or $25 (less then the cost of your last pair of sneakers) we would far exceed our goals.
