Elections
By Nicole L. Buck, PA-C, Elections Committee Chair
This is a great time of year to start new projects, and try something different. It’s also a great way to become involved in the society, (and it looks good on your resume!). We will be holding elections this April and May, and there are several other positions open as well.
· President Elect (1)
· Representative to AAPA House of Delegates (3)
· Director at Large (2)
· Student Director at Large (2)
Only junior and senior students may apply for the student director at large, otherwise any fellow member may qualify for the other positions. All offices hold a two-year term beginning on July 1 except for the Student Director at Large only having a one-year term. The president-elect will hold a four year term. One year as president-elect, two years as president, and one year as immediate past-president. Detailed job descriptions can be found on the PSPA website, which is pspa@pspa.net. For those of you who don’t have a computer, feel free to call me for a copy or fax of any of the job descriptions at 570-524-0510. Those of you who would like to be a candidate can submit the following to Nicole Buck, PA-C, Elections Chair, 236 North Front Street, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or email submissions to pspa@pspa.net:
(1) letter of intent,
(2) brief biographical profile,
(3) platform statement, 300 words or less,
(4) small color photo of your head and shoulders.
Please submit all nominations by April 15th (that’s right, income tax day!) for elections in May. Students, you only have to submit a platform statement and picture by March 15th for elections in April.
Please don’t be shy; this is a good way for you to become a more active member within the PSPA. Let the rest of us see what you have been thinking, or how you want to contribute to this great society. For those of you who are already active, don’t be afraid to try something new. (And if you have had one of these positions in the past and want to do it again, then more power to you.) I know, most of us work and have families and children, and an endless list of other obligations; but most positions require less then 10 hours of your time a month and it gives you a chance to see how your ideas can make a difference within the society. Also keep in mind you can nominate a fellow PSPA member for any of the above positions. Just let us know and we will have someone contact them. I am looking forward to an exciting election this year!
