By: Diana L. Yuhas, LUTCF

INSURANCE THAT PAYS YOU FOR LIVING

Critical Illness Insurance pays a cash benefit when you are diagnosed with one of 13 covered illnesses. After suffering a serious illness like a heart attack, stroke or cancer, the last thing you want to worry about is your finances. Unfortunately, it is often the first thing people need to worry about. How will you pay your bills? What will you do about the daily household responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, laundry or even lawn maintenance you can no longer fulfill? Fortunately, there’s an important insurance product you may not have heard of that addresses this situation

CRITICAL ILLNESS INSURANCE

Critical Illness Insurance pays you an up front, tax-free benefit directly to you when you’re diagnosed (as defined by the policy/ certificate) with one of 13 covered conditions which include heart attack, life-threatening cancer, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, major organ transplant, Multiple Sclerosis, paralysis, Renal (kidney) failure, blindness and deafness. Conditions covered at 25% of your Maximum Benefit Amount are the First Ever Coronary Angioplasty, First Ever Coronary Artery Bypass and the first Diagnosis of First Carcinoma in Situ. Benefit amounts up to $1 million help ensure that, should you ever be diagnosed with one of these covered illnesses, you’ll receive your money right when you need it most.

That’s the best thing about Critical Illness Insurance—once you’re diagnosed with a critical illness, your benefit amount will be paid up front, directly to you, to use however you wish. In addition, because you are a member of PSPA that endorses this insurance product underwritten by Mutual of Omaha, you will receive a Hospital Confinement Benefit at No Additional Cost, This benefit pays $50 for each day of inpatient confinement that is related to a covered critical illness, up to a maximum of 25 days.

Please remember that Critical Illness Insurance IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR DISABILITY INCOME INSURANCE. Disability Income Insurance pays you a monthly benefit for the duration of your disability—as long as you cannot work. The benefit for Disability Income Insurance is based on your income at the time you purchase the policy. Disability Income Insurance covers many types of illnesses. But if you have a family history of any of the 13 covered illnesses, it is important to seriously consider this insurance coverage. This coverage is also available to your family members. You can beat cancer and you can survive a heart attack, but what do you do while you’re beating cancer and surviving the heart attack. Also, remember this insurance PAYS IN ADDITION TO DISABILITY INCOME INSURANCE..
